MEMBERS' INFORMATION - WISTASTON MEMORIAL HALL BOWLING CLUB – March 2024

The following information has been prepared to show the main activities of the club, and to help you to get the most enjoyment out of your membership.

GREEN AVAILABILITY

The green is normally cut on Monday and Thursday mornings and takes up to an hour and half.  It is also closed for maintenance (as required by the Greenkeepers) on a few mornings during the season – see blackboard on the pavilion veranda.

League Matches are played on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, practice from 6.30pm, for a 7.00pm start, and on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons from 2pm.

The Green is not available on Friday afternoons 2pm - 4pm as it is rented out to U3A.

In general, if you just want to practice, play with friends, or arrange a club competition match, the following times are usually quiet: mornings, late afternoons after 4.00 pm and evenings other than Mondays and Tuesdays. If you prefer evenings, check the friendly match list, as these are mainly played in the evening.

If you wish to bring family or friends along, they are most welcome to come along for an initial visit to try out the game. After the first visit, please speak to a member of the committee regarding membership of the club.

CLUB AFTERNOONS – Social bowling

Social bowling takes place on Tuesday, Saturday, and Sunday afternoons, starting at 2.00 pm and Friday evenings starting at 6.30pm. It takes the form of friendly competitions in pairs. It is an excellent chance to meet and get to know other members of the club.

To organise the session (so that everyone who turns up has a partner), please arrive at the green 10 minutes before the start.

LEAGUE BOWLING

The club currently has 3 teams in the Sandbach and District League, played on Monday and Tuesday evenings, starting at 7.00pm

There are currently 4 teams in the Crewe and Nantwich Veterans (Vets) League, played on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons starting at 2.00pm. To be eligible for the ‘Vets’, you must be over 60 years of age and not in full time employment. There is no age restriction for the other leagues.

There are 2 teams in the Holmes Chapel League.

For all league bowling you must be registered with the British Crown Green and the Cheshire Crown Green Bowling associations. Please contact our League Secretary: Dave Allock (664908).

NOTICE BOARDS

There are several notice boards inside and outside the pavilion. To make the most of your membership it is to your advantage to regularly read the notices as they display information regarding all aspects of the club including social events organised for the enjoyment of members.  Also, lists will be displayed which require you to enter your names if you wish to participate in friendly matches and competitions.

FRIENDLY MATCHES

During the season, several matches are arranged with other bowling clubs. These are normally on a home and away basis where the games are played in pairs.  This is an excellent chance for newer members of the club to join in and play with fellow members and represent our club.

CLUB COMPETITIONS

There are a series of competitions open to all members, irrespective of playing ability. Most competitions will have a handicap system where the more inexperienced players are given a few shots start on the stronger players to try to give everyone a fairer chance of winning.

It is hoped that everyone will enter these to make winning a trophy worthwhile.
